Peter Wilderer

"Urban Water Management in the Anthropocene"

Peter A. Wilderer has been professor at the University of Karlsruhe, the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany. In course of his scientific work he conducted fundamental studies on the kinetics of heterogeneously composed microbial communities, the Sequencing Batch Reactor system, and on structure and function of biofilms. He advocates the concept of Decentralized Sanitation and ReuseI. In 2003, he received the Stockholm Water Prize. In 2007 TUM honoured him with the title “Professor emeritus of excellence”. In 2008, he founded the International Expert Group for the Preservation of the Earth System (IEPS) dedicated to gain better understanding of causes endangering the intrinsic function of the Earth system, and to contributing to enhancement of its resilience.
